Honorary life President
Moran is one of the founders of the Negev Refugees Center and was for over 10 years the lead volunteer staffer in the organization. She is a graduate of the Ben Gurion University of the Negev with a BA in politics and government, and a second degree in social work. She is an educator, lecturer, writer and workshop leader. In 2022 she published her first book; “Josephine and the Dolphin” which has been translated into English and Arabic with the support of the United Nations Commission for Human Rights (UNCHR).
Chairman of the Committee
Ibrahim arrived in Israel after fleeing from Dafur (Sudan) in 2012. He has been very active in NRC for several years and is a lead participant in events and lectures conducted by NRC. He speaks eloquently about his own escape from Sudan and the hardships he underwent during his journey to relative safety in Israel. He is one of the leaders of the vibrant Sudani community in Be’er Sheva and his modest dream is to build a normal family life in Israel.
Secretary of the committee
Liam has a degree in social work and community relations and an MA in management of non-profit organizations. She is a graduate of the Mandel School for Community Leadership. Liam was part of the Center’s team throughout her years as a student in Be’er Sheva. During that time, she has been involved in many projects, especially in the fields of education and hasbara/outreach. She has been instrumental in engendering cooperation with two important educational programs: University for All (Universita BeAm), Kedma, and the integration of asylum seekers therein.
Forced to give up his studies because of the political situation in Sudan, Mohammad reached Israel in 2011 at the age of 19. During his first years in Israel, he worked as a casual laborer but since 2013 has held a responsible production position in a factory for cutting marble. Mohammad has been active in the Center for several years, taking part in our languages program for Hebrew and English studies, as well as being part of our events team. In his free time, he likes to play the piano.
Shaked has been an active volunteer at the Center since 2019. She has filled a number of positions: coordinator of Hebrew lessons, coordinator of volunteers and coordinator of community relations. She has played a significant part at the decision-making level as well as at the day to day running of the Center. She has a degree in African studies, sociology and anthropology from Ben Gurion University. She is a keen gardener and grows her own vegetables
